Versatile Combatant
Prerequisite: Strength 13 or higher
You are a master of using medium-sized weapons with intent and precision, adapting your plans to what currently suits your needs. While you wield a longsword, warhammer, or battleaxe with two hands, you gain access to several different combat stances. You can use a bonus action to switch between stances.
- Defensive Stance: With your weapon in a low guard, you are ready for anything. As a reaction when you are hit with an attack, you can add your proficiency bonus to your AC, potentially causing the attack to miss.
- Overhand Stance: With a wide-legged stance and your weapon high, you can bring down the full heft of your weapon with each strike. You can add your proficiency bonus to the damage of your attacks.
- Half-swording Stance (longsword only): You grip the sword halfway up the blade and use it almost like a mace to knock your foes off balance. Once per turn when you hit a creature with an attack, you can cause them to have disadvantage on the next attack they make before the start of your next turn.
- Sweeping Stance (battleaxe only): By swinging the axe in large sweeps, you can deal with several foes at once. Once per turn when you hit a creature with an attack, you can cause another creature within 5 feet of you and the target to also take half the damage dealt by the attack.
- Overpower Stance (warhammer only): You aim for your enemies' weak spots, throwing them around the battlefield. Once per turn, when you hit a creature with an attack, you can force them to make a Strength saving throw (DC equals 8 + prof + str), knocking them back 10 feet on a failure.
Only attacks made with versatile weapons wielded in both hands are eligible for these benefits. If you equip another weapon or a shield, you lose the benefits from your stance.
