Smallkin

The smallkin of the forest inhabit the treetops, or tunnel systems under hills. They are children of the forest and nature-herders who are rarely seen but their influence reaches far and wide throughout the woodland realm. They often settle down in villages together with ursinians.

Smallkin have close family bonds, usually living in multi-generation household units. Their dwelling of choice depends, some kins preferring to live in the treetops, others dig small networks under hills to keep hidden.

Smallkin Traits

All smallkin share some common physical characteristics.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity increases by 2, and one other ability score of your choice increases by 1.

Age

Smallkin mature around age 8, and their lifespans are slightly shorter than humans.

Alignment

Smallkin tend good. They tend more chaotic than larger ursinians.

Size

Smallkin range from less than 3 feet to about 4 feet in height. They usually weigh between 40 to 80 pounds, with males and females being of similar stature. Your size is small.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Languages

You can speak, read and write Common and Sylvan.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Quick and Agile

You have proficiency in the Acrobatics skill, and you are proficient with staffslings.

Lick Wounds

You can tend to minor wounds. Once per long rest, you can touch a creature as an action and restore hit points equal to your level.

Diverse Family

These subraces are inspired by specific animals, but you should not feel constrained to just the examples given. For example, if you want to play as a beaver, the Otterkin subrace works well, or the Badgerkin if you want to play as a raccoon.

Consult your DM if you feel none of the options suit your idea.

Red Pandakin

These smallkin have crimson fur, with white face markings and black belly and legs and a big bushy tail with rings of lighter color. They make their homes in treetop huts, usually in tight family clusters.

Treetop Climbers

You have a climbing speed equal to your walking speed.

Firefox Coat

Your insulating fur protects you from heat. You have resistance to fire damage.

Otterkin

These aquatic smallkin live by rivers and lakes. Their fur is soft and can range from light brown to almost black.

Amphibious Living

You gain a swim speed equal to your walking speed and you can hold your breath for 15 minutes.

Small and Nimble

You can move through the space of any creature that is of a size larger than yours.

Badgerkin

These forest smallkin live in tunnels and dens under hills and fallen trees.

Scrounging for Food

Your hardened stomach and physique grant you resistance to poison damage and advantage on saving throws against being poisoned.

Deft Hands

You gain a tool proficiency of your choice.

Wolverinekin

Wolverinekin are the hardiest and toughest of all smallkin. They are usually solitary wanderers of the land.

Powerful Build

You do not suffer any negative effects from wielding Heavy weapons, and you count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.

Hardiest of Smallkin

Your hit point maximum increases by 1, and it increases by 1 every time you gain a level.
