The Merry Manatee

The Merry Manatee is a large sailing vessel that roams between the harbors of the isles, offering trade and services wherever they drop anchor. Captain Max Kingfisher is in charge aboard the Manatee. He has served in the FTC fleet, but grew disillusioned with that organization.

While the Manatee isn't the fastest ship, it has a large hold capable of carrying 10 tons of cargo. She also has a few guest cabins and regularly takes on passengers.

People

In addition to these people, there are about a dozen able seamen aboard the Manatee.

Captain Max Kingfisher

(human rogue, CG, 39): The charismatic and quick-talking captain of the Manatee. Captain Max treats his crew well, believing that only by being the best employer can he get the best employees. Max carries a gaudy rapier on his hip and a large engraved blunderbuss pistol across his chest.

Up until six years ago, Captian Max was the first mate aboard a FTC ship, but after seeing their limitless greed first-hand, he broke his contract and left to sail under his own flag. It took him almost three years to acquire a ship of his own and gather a crew, but now he roves the oceans, free to follow his inner compass.

Ol' Tubbs

(human bard, NG, 68): Ship's mate and resident mandolin troubadour, originally from Goldshore. Tubbs is a portly man with a large white beard, who is rarely seen without a pipe in his mouth. He usually sings about the lovely things in life, and more than a few of his compositions can turn even the most hardened sailor's face red.

Lidena Archion

(human artificer, NG, 35): Expert gunsmith who used to be in the FTC. She met Max at an inn when the Manatee made port in Lilyharbor, and while spending the night together, she realized he was her ticket out. Max smuggled her aboard the Manatee in an empty wine barrel. Lidena knows way more about their technology than the FTC can accept, and ever since escaping, Lidena has been hunted by agents of the FTC who are tasked with eliminating her.

Regardless, she still practices her trade, and the Manatee is perhaps the only non-FTC ship that carries firearms, including the masterwork pistol she gifted to Captain Max. When in port she goes by Kelly Driftwood, a fake name to avoid her pursuers.

Brimath Ladresir

(elf wizard, TN, 118): Brimath is a wizard who specializes in scribing scrolls. He used to live in Maeral, but he joined the Manatee to be able to have long periods of uninterupted study during passages. It is not uncommon for him not to emerge from his cabin for a solid week.

Nanila

([middin], CG, 29): Nanila is a journeyman jeweler, originally from Tel Brimen. She joined the crew of the Manatee after she was rescued from the flotsam that remained after her raft was caught in a storm, the only survivor of that ship. She makes beautiful twisted-wire pieces adorned with pearls and gems.

Sean Lacewing

(halfling, NG, 34): Sean is a sailor aboard the Manatee who earns some extra gold as a tattooer. He is very skilled with his needles, and has given most of the crew some body art. Secretly in love with Nanila, but he is too shy to make a move.
